We’ve developed 10 ways to make it easier for you to become a better creative professional. While it’s not a sure-cut shortcut, embracing the following methodologies alongside practicing a balanced work-life will definitely make it easier for your creative success to shine.

  1. Embrace continuous learning

Stay updated with the latest trends, tools, and techniques in your field. Attend workshops, take online courses, and read relevant books and articles to expand your knowledge and skills.

  2. Practice regularly

Creativity, like any skill, improves with practice. Dedicate time regularly to hone your craft, whether it’s staying up to date with the latest design tools, writing, coding, or any other creative discipline. For myself, I’m a tattoo artist, so I’m always looking at the latest hand-poke tools and techniques.

  3. Seek feedback

Constructive criticism is invaluable. Share your work with peers, mentors, or online communities to get feedback. This can provide new perspectives and ideas for improvement.

  4. Foster curiosity

Be open to exploring new ideas, technologies, and methodologies. Curiosity drives innovation and can lead to unique and original creations. Don’t be afraid of embracing changing creative mediums – generative AI such as DALL-E 3 and ChatGPT will let you develop your practice much further.

  5. Collaborate and network

Work with other creative professionals. Networking can lead to new opportunities, collaborations, and the exchange of ideas that can enrich your own work.

  6. Create a conducive work environment

Organize your workspace to inspire creativity. This might include having inspirational objects around, a comfortable setting, or tools and materials that you love using.

  7. Balanced time management

Understand when you are most creative and productive, and schedule your most important creative work during these times. Use tools and techniques to manage time and avoid burnout.

  8. Embrace failure

Don’t be afraid to take risks and make mistakes. Each failure is an opportunity to learn and grow as a creative professional. Make sure to learn from your failures. For example, I was having trouble using a tool within Krita. My pain point trying to find out how to create a deselection shortcut actually prompted me to write my guide on how to deselect in Krita.

  9. Use technology as an enabler

Leverage the latest technology and software to enhance your creativity. This could be new design software, writing tools, or digital platforms for showcasing your work. For example, you might consider the best Photoshop Generative fill prompts to use AI to enhance your work, or you might be looking to find out if Procreate Dreams has early access so you can get ahead of the crowd.

  10. Mindfulness and self-care

Lastly, taking care of your mental and physical health is crucial. Practices like mindfulness, meditation, regular exercise, and a balanced diet can significantly improve your creative output.

  11. Don’t get bogged down by your tools

While it might help to have the best iPad for Procreate Dreams or the best drawing tablet for manga – your own creativity and skills are going to be more valuable than anything else. Make sure to water them, before you invest in tools.
