How to sign up for Grok early access waitlist

Elon Musk has been threatening an AI for a while now. It’s basically here, so let’s go over signing up for Grok, X’s AI looking to rival ChatGPT.

How to sign up for Grok early access

Participation to Grok AI is limited to verified X Blue users, though if you’re not already a verified user on X, you’re not going to be able to get access to Grok AI until it’s ready to leave early access.

If you’re a Verified X user. You’re going to be able to sign in with X, authorise your account to be used with Grok, and then you’ve joined the waitlist.

Once you’ve done the following, you’re going to be notified when your account is ready to use xAI’s first publicly released chatbot.

Who can get onto the Grok waitlist?

According to the x.ai blog, they are “offering a limited number of users in the United States to try out our Grok prototype and provide valuable feedback that will help us improve its capabilities before a wider release.”

It’s likely that the early access period will be expanded upon pretty swiftly, though we’re not going to know when exactly this is going to happen.

Grok AI pricing explained

According to Elon Musk’s X account: “The xAI Grok AI assistant will be provided as part of X Premium+ … Just $16/month via web.” You can find more about the pricing of X Premium + here.

What is GrokAI?

GrokAI is going to be a “based” AI chatbot, providing an alternative to ChatGPT and others which are critiqued for censorship and for their clampdowns on jailbreaks and more.

It’s been developed by xAI, which is Elon Musk’s newly formed AI company. Previously, the tech tycoon had mentioned that a TruthGPT was in the works, and it seems that Grok is formed from the ashes of that system.

Musk has shown off examples of how the AI chatbot will still refuse to answer some sensitive questions – how to make cocaine – for example.

Not too long ago too, Musk siad that AI was a threat to humanity – yet here he is releasing a powerful chatbot. The chatbot shows off its sarcasm and human-like responses which other chatbots are infamous for not showing. However, at the end of the day, steering ChatGPT and other chatbots to provide similar responses is not difficult, and it’s hard to see how Elon Musk’s chatbot surpass it in any other way than being ‘funny.’ Despite this, Musk has refuted that “it is the best that currently exists.”

They’ve also said that “It is only surpassed by models that were trained with a significantly larger amount of training data and computer resources like GPT-4,” which entirely contradicts what Musk has also said. But hey-ho, this is the way with the man.

The name ‘Grok’ comes from Heinlein’s word which means “understand thoroughly and intuitively,” and is in part an homage to The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.
